Sludden’s the hero for the St Dympna’s with late goal

DROMORE are through to the quarter finals of the Tyrone Senior championship following a high-scoring victory over Omagh this evening.

It went to extra-time and was a classic encounter which saw both teams enjoy spells in the lead, before the St Dympna’s came good at just the right time.

Much of the excitement was reserved for the final stages of extra-time.

The first big moment came when Omagh’s Cathal McCarron was bundled over, earning his side a penalty. After some deliberation, it was Ronan O’Neill who stepped up to take the penalty, and he buried it into the bottom corner. What a moment in the game.

Dromore bounced back with points from Sean McDonnell and Ryan McCusker before Connor O’Donnell scored his second point of the day to give Omagh a 2-10 to 1-12 lead – breathtaking stuff.

Sean McDonnell drew level right at the start of the second period of extra-time before Peter Teague landed an inspirational score. The sides then were level for the seventh time when Ronan O’Neill landed a similarly brilliant point.

Then came the game’s killer score as Andrew McGrath hit the back of the net to leave it 2-14 to 2-11. Omagh fought back with two more points but Niall Sludden grabbed another goal to send Dromore though.
