Tyrone Under-14 Ladies seek Platinum prize on Saturday

THE first chance of Ulster silverware this season arrives for Tyrone Ladies on Saturday as the County under 14s face Derry in the Platinum final at Garvaghey. The game throws in at 2pm and a tight contest is predicted.

The visitors come into the game having won seven of their eight group games while Tyrone claimed full points in six of their games. Their only loss in the group stages was against the Oak Leafers which adds extra spice to this rematch. There was six points between the sides on that occasion.

It has been a good campaign for Barry Collins side, the former Dromore player enjoying his first term in inter county management after several seasons of working with the youth set-up within his St Dympna’s club.

Tyrone have used their full squad through the Ulster series which started in March, with losses to both Donegal and Derry.

Improvement has followed for his young charges. They have racked up some impressive results while the manager has been able to run the rule over his squad.

The Red Hands missed out in the U14 Gold Final last season but built up a head of steam in their All-Ireland campaign before missing out in the latter stages.

Elswhere it’s also a big weekend too for the Tyrone Minor Ladies who face Cavan in their final Group One encounter with the Breffni side out top by two points ahead of this final tie. A win for Tyrone would leapfrog them to top spot on the head to head rule.

Meanwhile the Tyrone U16s enjoyed an impressive 3-15 to 1-5 win against Monaghan at the weekend, a result that puts them top of Group Two and on the cusp of an Ulster Final appearance.
