Urney are happy with the tag of undedogs

UNBEATEN runs can’t last forever and Urney are hoping Eskra’s will end this coming weekend when the two teams meet in the LCC Group Tyrone Junior Championship semi-final.

The Emmetts went through the Division Three league season unbeaten and also won their opening Championship clash against Brocagh to leave them with a fifteen game streak without tasting defeat. Yet Urney stalwart Johnny Lafferty is happy for their opponents to be going in as favourites.

“They have to lose some time and we’ve been in this position before, going in as underdogs and we have had the same attitude that someone has to beat them. We’ll give it a go. It might not be us that ends their run, but we’ll certainly try.

“They have proved to be worthy league winners this year but it was a tight game against us and they did shade it that night, but we’ll learn from that.

“We have played them in a final before and they had the upper hand on us. We have a mixed record against them during my time in the team over the last 10 or 12 years, but it should make for an interesting battle and whoever wins will deserve it.”

Urney are in a decent run of form themselves, having defeated Fintona and Killyman to reach the last four.

And while Lafferty admits his side haven’t hit their stride fully yet, he feels the fact both of those games were tough battles will serve them well against the high-flying Emmetts.

“We’re happy to get through both rounds but we’d only be happy with bits and pieces of our performances,” he acknowledged.
