A YOUNG Trillick showjumper has been honoured at a civic reception after her remarkable victory at a top UK equestrian event.
Lily McBride, a member of the Fermanagh Harriers Branch of the Pony Club, was celebrated by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council chair, Cllr John McClaughry, for her incredible performance at the GS Equestrian Pony Club Mini Major competition during the London International Horse Show (LIHS) in December.
At the time of her victory, Lily was just ten-years-old.
The daughter of Jane and Seamus McBride of Castlehill, Trillick, and a Primary Seven pupil at St Scire’s PS, Lily has been passionate about showjumping since the age of seven.
Her journey began with the Fermanagh Harriers Pony Club, and since then she has competed across Ireland – from Galway to Cavan and locally at Necarne – earning accolades at every turn.
The civic reception recognised Lily’s outstanding talent, dedication and composure as she represented both her club and community on an international stage.
Riding her pony Albert and paired with professional showjumper Matt Sampson, Lily delivered a flawless and lightning-fast clear round, helping the duo secure first place in a tightly-contested competition broadcast live on Horse and Country TV.
Cllr McClaughry commended Lily’s impressive achievement, noting that her determination was evident when she introduced herself to Matt and told him, “Don’t let me down.”
He also expressed confidence in Lily’s future success, stating that many riders
who achieve at the Mini
Major go on to further success at the London International Horse Show.
Lily’s civic reception was attended by family, club representatives and local dignitaries, all eager to applaud her achievement.
Roisin Cathcart, from the Fermanagh Harriers Branch, said Lily’s win was ‘a proud moment’ for the entire club, while District Commissioner Frances Rolston Bruce encouraged other young riders to get involved, highlighting the club’s supportive environment.
