Thankfully the government has let gyms reopen.
It’s brilliant to see gym owners and many of my own friends opening their doors once again for their clients. I know that many of them have been using their time and energy to update the awesome service they were already providing.
Add to this the steps they are taking to ensure the safety of their members are well looked after, there is no better time to rejoin your gym.
Even with everything in place some people are deciding to ditch the gym and stick to their own home workouts. It’s brilliant to see that people can have the motivation to keep this going but I would question if it is the right decision.
I am all for anything which will get people moving, as you know I’m an even bigger fan if you can get your movement done outside. But we all need a little expertise, guidance, and a support network now and again. This is why I think people should consider rejoining the gym.
If you are still in doubt about whether to join back or become a member for the first time, then have a read over these few points before you make your final decision.
It’s in our nature to be social
One thing that any gym will do, is give you the opportunity to be social. We can still be social with social distancing in place and no better way to do this than in the gym.
Finding a group of people who share similar goals to you and want to see you succeed is something we all strive for.
When the going gets tough or you feel that you couldn’t be bothered, it’s easy when you are at home to throw in the towel, but when you have a group of people there to push you on, you’ll be glad of them in a few months time when you have lost your lockdown pounds.
It’s time to give back
Gym owners have been delivering sessions online since the start of lockdown, some even throwing out free content. This isn’t just a business for them, it’s their passion, drive and livelihood.
In some cases, it’s their everything. Now is the time to support our local people and renew your membership and in return you will have a grateful and determined gym owner who will do all they can to ensure you reach your goals.
It’s good for the head
Mental health issues are on a steady incline, but now after lockdown it is more important than ever that we look after our own mental health and those around us.
Exercise and feeling part of a community is something that we may all be craving.
If you had a gym buddy pre-lockdown check in with them and see if they are rejoining. It may be exactly what both of you need to help you get back on track towards leading a healthy, active and happy lifestyle.
You’re back with the experts
Doing your own workouts or following someone on screen has many advantages but having a qualified professional look at your technique or know when you need to push it or slow down a little is something you won’t get from Joe Wicks. Personal trainers have been starved of the buzz they get from helping others, so if you want a fresh and enthusiastic coach there is no better time than now.
You have more variety
Swinging that 6kg kettlebell or lifting those 10kg dumbbells from Lidl can only get you so far. Getting under an Olympic barbell again and adding in a variety of exercises is something which is going to both shock and benefit your body. Variety is definitely something gyms can offer all of us.
These are just a few reasons why I think you should join your gym again and there is many more. If you can mix your gym workouts up with some outdoor activities then you are onto a winner, even better if you find a gym that can combine both.
So renew that gym membership and get back on track with the help of others.
