GAA club members give Ardboe a ‘Big Spring Clean’

MEMBERS of O’Donovan Rossa GAA club in Ardboe collected dozens of bags of rubbish in their local area on St Patrick’s Day as part of the ‘Big Spring Clean’ .

Big Spring Cleans have continued to take place even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, albeit socially distanced. Mid Ulster Council is supporting any community groups, sports clubs or schools carrying out a clean-up event by loaning litter pickers, providing bin bags and by collecting and disposing of the rubbish afterwards.

Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Sean McGuigan said, “It is very pleasing to see the fabulous environmental work continuing in our communities even throughout the extremely difficult last 12 months.

“Residents have gone above and beyond in their efforts to assist our own street cleansing staff in ensuring our streets, roads, pathways, open spaces and beautiful country sides are kept presentable, and as litter-free as possible.

“I would encourage all community groups, sports clubs, schools and other groups to consider organising a Big Spring Clean in their area over the coming weeks.”
