TRISTAN Kelly flew to America on Monday to join the elite athlete scholarship programme for athletics at Union University in Jackson Tennessee.
The 18-year-old from Killyclogher is ‘over the moon’ with the opportunity he has earned and it’s one he is determined to make the most of.
“My main goal is, in the next four years, I want to represent Ireland,” said Tristan, who passed his driving test on Thursday of last week.
He continued: “I’ve gone from wanting to get a scholarship and to be able to compete at the university and now, because the school I’m going to is building from the foundation up, I want to be a part of that and I want to be the person who builds it.
“And second of all, I want to represent Ireland because that was a very far off goal but now I’m the closest I’ve ever been to acheiving it.”
