Missing Omagh man has been found in Turkish hospital

A MISSING Omagh man is being treated in a Turkey hospital, his family have revealed.

A major appeal was launched this week after Martin Byrne’s family had not heard from him for several days.

Martin, who is aged 59, lives in Dromore and is described by his family as ’vulnerable’, went missing last week after he left home for a trip to Turkey.

His niece, Theresa McAleer, today said Martin had been located in a hospital in Turkey.

In a message posted on social media, she said they had managed to have a brief conversation with him.

“Garda have been liaising with Irish embassy in Turkey and advise he is in a hospital there after undergoing an operation for a bleed on the brain, and being put into an induced coma.

“Marty is awake and talking to staff but with limited access to translation and general hospital have limited staff who speak English it is difficult so we are taking all our direction from the Garda about getting Marty home asap.

“The family greatly appreciate all the prayers and messages of support and we will update you when we have more information.”

The PSNI yesterday said they were liaising with Garda Síochána and Interpol about the Tyrone man’s whereabouts.
