Derg native signs for Carrick Rangers

FORMER Dergview and Ballinamallard United player Adam Lecky has signed for Carrick Rangers.

The 34-year-old will join the ‘Gers once his contract with Crusaders expires in the coming weeks.

Lecky’s move means the Castlederg native will again link up with former Crues boss Stephen Baxter.

Lecky made 162 appearances for the North Belfast side, scoring 34 goals since joining the club in 2019 where he won an Irish Cup under Baxter.

Prior to that he played for Ballymena United where he made 68 appearances and scored 21 goals in the process.

Lecky missed the majority of last season through injury but is now looking forward to a new challenge at Taylor’s Avenue.

“I’m looking forward to it being a fresh start and getting going during pre-season,” he said.

“I look at the squad here and it was probably a disappointing season last year, but there’s a lot of quality in the squad. I don’t see why we can’t push up to get sixth or seventh spot as well as targeting the cups.

“I’ve worked with Stephen in the past and we’ve enjoyed a bit of success together. That was a big draw, and then speaking to Peter Clarke, the chairman, there just seemed to be real enthusiasm at the club, you want to join an ambitious club.

Lecky and experienced campaigner Billy Joe Burns have both made the switch to Carrick and Baxter believes the arrival of both is a major boost for last season’s Premiership strugglers.

“Adam brings strength, power, leadership and goals and we are all excited and looking forward to seeing him play for the club soon,” he said.
