DUNGANNON recovered from a 17-0 half-time deficit to launch their All Ireland campaign with a eye-catching bonus point win against Greystones at Dr Hickie Park.
Tries by Satherley and Kenny, both converted by Rochford who also scored a penalty had the home side firmly in control at the interval but there was no sense of panic in the Dungannon ranks and the visitors stormed back in the second half.
The three James, McMahon, McCammon and Gamble, all crossed the whitewash for the Tyrone side with Ben McCaughey converting all three tries as well tagging on a penalty.
A Baker try kept Greystones in touch but, much delight of Dungannon coach Jonny Gillespie, the visitors held on for what he believed was a comfortable win in the end.
“We went 17-0 down without doing anything particularly wrong,” he said.
“But we regrouped and got an early score in the second half and we went from there. The boys were nice and composed and calm, our setpiece was very good and Greystones didn’t seem to have an answer to that in the second half.
“They peppered our line in the dying moments but apart from that it was pretty comfortable to be honest. The changing room was very calm at half-time, there was no panic, no beating of chests, we knew we weren’t out of it.
“We knew that the score line didn’t reflect how much we had invested in the game up to that point. Our senior players showed great composure, our fitness was another factor and in the end I thought we were good value for the win.”
