Plans resubmitted for 33 new homes in Omagh

A FRESH application has been lodged by a local developer for the construction of 33 new homes on the Glencam Road as part of phase two of an already commenced home-building project.

The new homes are being located on the Glencam Road, close to Mullaghmore and linking Killyclogher with the Gortin Road end of the town.

It will comprise of 32 semi-detached homes and one detached property and is being undertaken by Fox Contracts, based on the Drumnakilly Road.

The application for the new homes was first lodged a number of years ago, but has now been resubmitted.

It includes provision for four new social homes, which the developer hopes will meet the identified need for such properties in the Omagh area.

It says, in addition, that there will be no difference in any of the dwellings available for affordable housing.

The area of the Glencam Road has seen extensive housing development in recent years and, in planning documents released as part of the application, the company says that new housing will still be required for Omagh.

“While the Local Development Plan sets out the use of House Growth Indicators, these currently do not demonstrate that the housing need for Omagh has been met,” the planning statement for the development says.

“Housing Growth Indicators should not be regarded as a cap on housing but a starting point and in the absence of demand being met, new housing will still be required for Omagh.”

It goes on to state that, on the basis of the need for social housing locally, the proposed development should be considered as being the sustainable release of a greenfield site.

The developer says that the site has been designed with affordable housing in mind, and that there will be open space and high-end finishes within the development.
