Tributes to an Omagh woman who was devoted to family and faith

REQUIEM Mass has taken place for devoted mother, grandmother and wife Eileen Quinn at the Sacred Heart Church, Omagh.

Mrs Quinn (née Murphy), late of the Tamlaght Road, passed away peacefully at her home last Sunday (December 14), surrounded by her loving family. She had lived there throughout her entire married life.

Originally from Pomeroy, Eileen was the daughter of the late Packie and Sarah Murphy and the second-youngest of 11 children.

She moved to Omagh after meeting her husband Peter at a dance in the Gap Ballroom. The couple were married for 59 years and raised five children together, Paula, Sean, Brian, Sinéad and Patricia.

Eileen and Peter shared a loving life together in their home on the Tamlaght Road for the duration of their marriage.

Mrs Quinn was described as a devoted mother, grandmother and wife who was house-proud and ladylike, and who enjoyed weekend getaways to the family caravan in Mullaghmore.

Fr Kevin McElhennon spoke of her love of reading, but said that family was always at the centre of her life.

“Eileen was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. Family was the centre of her life,” Fr McElhennon said.

“Her 13 grandchildren filled the house with noise and energy, and Eileen and Peter were always there to babysit, full of joy as they cared for the children.

“Then came their great-grandchild, Daithi, with another soon to arrive, bringing even more life into the family.”

He added, “Eileen was a woman of faith. Her faith was steady and lived rather than showy or talked-about, and it shaped how she lived and how she faced the later years of her life. Even as those years took their toll, she died peacefully at home – fittingly in the house where she raised and cared for her family until her final moments.”

After the funeral, her remains were interred at St Mary’s Cemetery, Drumragh.

Mrs Quinn is sadly missed by her husband, sons and daughters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, grandchildren Niamh, Aoife, Rory, Ciara, Peadar, Conor, Eimear, Aisling, Pauric, Aine, Oliver, Ronan and Sarah; her great-grandchild Daithi and her wider family circle.
