A spokesperson for the club said, “Strabane Rugby Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our close friend Will Cather.

“Will has been a supporter of Strabane RFC for as long as we all can remember, a big man with a big personality.

“Will was a stalwart of the second row in the Strabane RFC team of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

“In a side punctuated with rugged men of great strength and power; the likes of Stephen Allen, John Graham, the sadly departed Don Keatley, Will stood out because of his sheer size and stature.

“An uncompromising, unpolished diamond of a man, hard but very fair, he would have cut you in two on the pitch and bearhugged you to death off it.

“They don’t make them like Will anymore, with strength, loyalty, and passion that was complimented with an equal amount of craic and devilment.

“We will miss him sorely, rest easy big Will from all of your friends at Strabane RFC!”
