5 Tips To Stay On Top Of Technlogy

When it comes to technology it feels like we’re all moving at “warp speed.”  It feels like something new is being released practically every day and just as we are starting to come to grasps with one piece of technology, something new comes along.

We’re living in the age of technology and you don’t have to look too far to see that mobiles are taking over, we’re never without them and if we do make the mistake of leaving the house without them we feel lost, cut off even. It’s crazy to think that once upon a time we existed, quite happily without our little mobile companions, but now we feel almost unsafe without them. How much does that say about our dependency on technology and our ‘there’s an app for that’ mentality?

We all know this shouldn’t be the case, but it’s a fact of the world we live in today.  With new convenient technology comes better job performance, but also the need for employees to become tech experts.

Employees are expected to be up to date on new products and platforms, everything from web–based applications, social media to smart phones, software and more. Technology is becoming an increasingly more significant part of our day to day lives and jobs.

So with all these advances happening on a seemingly endless basis how do you keep up? What’s the best way to keep your head above the water and stay ahead of the game.

Follow Some Sources

There are countless ways to keep on top of the latest information through various online resources. Follow some blogs or social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook so that you can easily keep track of any webinars or online courses that you can take part in.

We like Mashable and Treehouse Blog.

Podcasts

For those of you who don’t know, a podcast is a digital audio file made available to on the Internet to download onto an mp3 player or a computer.

They’re usually part of a series that you can subscribe to and receive new episodes automatically. This is a great way to get information because you can listen to it on the move, it requires minimal attention, it will always be up to date and they’re usually free or very cheap.

Talk To Others

There will be people or multiple people in your office or in your social circle who are always on top of the latest trends and know everything there is to know about the latest technology. They will be more than happy to share their expertise with others and provide their perspective on what’s happening.

Learn By Doing

The only way to get the hang of a new skill is to practice it. So get in there, get your hands dirty and play about with whatever new technology it is that you need to get to grips with.

Build a few things, design something, use a new algorithm or play around with a new computer programme. This is when you will truly learn to use your new schools.

Think Outside The Box

There are certain industries that will be ahead of others in terms of technology, certain companies or even departments of companies that will be constantly pushing boundaries.

Why not have a look at what’s even going on outside your industry and borrow some of their ideals where possible. You never know what it may lead to.
