DJ Chris-tmas returns with care home roadshow

RESIDENTS of care homes in Tyrone and across the country are in a for a real musical treat over the coming weeks, as DJ Chris prepares to hit the road for another feel-good festive tour.

Next Wednesday, Chris Morrow will kick-off his Care Home Roadshow at Glenview Nursing Home in Cabragh and bids to visit dozens of other homes in the final dash before Christmas.

At a time of continuing uncertainty surrounding the spread of coronavirus, Chris said he believed many of the elderly residents could do with some support.

“A lot of people think that the whole Covid thing is over and most things are back to normal. But that’s not the case for people living in care homes, “ he said.

“There is still a lot of restrictions on visiting and it’s still a very long way from normal and many of the them will still be a bot worried by the virus, so I thought it was a good idea to get the show on the road again this year.

“When I put the notice on social media, there were over 30 care homes who got in touch inside the first 12 hours,” he said.

Last year, DJ Chris staged a number of free shows in both his local community and at care homes elsewhere, with special requests played for the residents.

Looking forward to a repeat performance, the popular DJ said the effort was all worthwhile.

“I know it must still be tough for everyone in the care homes, but last year… the reaction was fantastic and to see the smiles, made it all worthwhile.

“Christmas is all about bringing some joy and happiness and hopefully by doing the roadshows I can brighten up their days a bit.”

During the first lockdown, Chris had thousands of people tune into his online country music shows with viewers from Scotland, Spain and as far as Australia.

A familiar face all across Tyrone and beyond, Chris has worked with many of biggest stars of country music like Philomena Begley and Susan McCann.

Since the easing of Covid restrictions, the DJ says he has seen a flood of bookings of parties and events.

“I am totally booked up at the minute and I’ve had to pass on jobs to other fellas, it’s never been busier.”

He added, “At the minute it looks like there will be around 40 care homes I have to get around and I don’t want to turn down any requests.

“I will be playing at homes, in the Omagh area, Enniskillen, here in the Dungannon area, Ardboe and Armagh and Lurgan.

“It’s definitely going to be a very busy few days in the run-up to Christmas, but it will all be worth it.”
