MID Ulster District Council’s planning committee has approved plans to upgrade the public realm in Pomeroy.
Lodged by agent McAdam Design on behalf of Mid Ulster District Council permission was sought to improve the public realm comprising of new paving to pedestrian footpaths and Pomeroy square.
A report on the application, compiled by one of Council’s planning officers notes the application area encompasses Pomeroy’s main street starting at St Mary’sChurch at 7 Cavanakeeran Road and goes east to include the Diamond before finishing at the footpath outside the Rowan Tree Centre.
It is also noted that neighbour notifications and advertisements in the local press were carried out but no third party representations were received in relation to this application.
The application was recommended for approval with the three conditions attached. The first condition sought assurances that development should start within five years from the date of permission.
The second condition states the work shall be carried out in strict accordance with the information provided and as detailed in the planning drawings to ensure the detail design respects and protects the character of the listed buildings.
The third condition concerned the concerned the light fittings and states prior to procurement, the light fitting manufacturers images shall be provided for agreement with the planning department .
It also says that prior to the implementation of works on the site, a method statement shall be submitted to Council’s planning department for approval and explains the statement should detail the sequence of protection works to be undertaken in the vicinity of the front boundary wall to St Mary’s Church boundary walls in the Diamond and to the Old Court House.
A proposal to approve was put forward by Councillor Wesley Brown and seconded by Councillor Wills Robinson.
