Rivals unite to inspire next generation of footballers

COUNTY rivals unite to inspire next generation of footballers with Tyrone training camp

A Tyrone business has enlisted two of GAA’s biggest stars, Conor McKenna from Tyrone and arch county rival Conor Glass from Derry, to help them find 16 kids, aged between 10 and 14, to win an exclusive training session, hosted by the two men.

Shield Accident Management (SAM) – an accident management company – which is based in Moy will treat the kids to the money-can’t-buy experience at Eglish GAA ground next spring.

The company’s Management Director, Monica Hughes said she was delighted to offer this unique experience.

“What young GAA fan wouldn’t want to meet two of the best players around and have a kick about with them”, said Monica. “It would be a dream come true for them. We plan to give eight boys and eight girls a training session they will never forget on March 5 from 10am to 11.30am at the grounds of Conor McKenna’s home club in Eglish, so get nominating now.”

Monica said it was easy to nominate a child to win one of the coveted spaces. She added, “To ensure your child, or a child you know, has a chance to win, go to our social media pages and comment with their name, age and the county they support, and be sure to tag Shield Accident Management when posting. As well as meeting their sporting heroes the kids will also take home a strip made exclusively for this competition.”

Conor McKenna, who is also the SAM ambassadors well as Tyrone and Eglish GAA player, said he hoped the could inspire some future stars.

He said, “I’m delighted to be a part of this great initiative and my hope is that we can inspire younger boys and girls, from all backgrounds, to get interested in the game.

“My love for Gaelic football started from a young age and I eventually went on to win the all-Ireland so maybe one of the kids will follow in my footsteps.”

Conor Glass, the Glen and Derry midfielder said he was also looking forward to the session.
