‘Omagh Pride here to stay’

FOLLOWING the success of Omaghs inaugural Pride parade in September, a public meeting has been called to formally constitute a new group to provide a voice for LGBTQ+ people in the area.

The meeting will take place on December 14 at the Strule Arts Centre at 7.15pm. The organisers have said that all local LGBTQ+ people and allies are welcome.

The meeting will elect a steering committee to oversee the group’s work, and LGBTQ+ people are invited to express an interest in becoming part of the committee.

Co-Founder of Omagh Pride, Lorraine Montague, said that anybody who has an interest in attending is welcome to come along and they can put their names forward to join the new group and decide on the eight person committee.

She said, “At this meeting we would like to elect a eight person committee to lead and steer this new group.

“Anyone can come along and vote on who is apart of the committee and people can express their opinions on who will be committee members.

“We would like to have representation for everyone on the committee from every background and age.”

The group will also be holding a ‘World Cafe Event’ in the new year to further cement the direction and purpose for the new organisation

Anyone who is interested in attending or becoming a committee member should contact omaghpride@gmail.com before the meeting.

Covid-19 regulations regarding entrance to venues will apply.
