HAVING established a ‘Sustainable Food Partnership’ for the district, the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are now calling upon local people to give it a suitable name.
The partnership is a collaborative initiative which brings together individuals, businesses, community groups and organisations in the Fermanagh and Omagh area.
Its aim is to raise awareness of the benefits of sustainable food which can also help to tackle some of the key food-related challenges, including food waste, food poverty, obesity and diet related ill health.
The Partnership further seeks to exploit the opportunities which food can create, including creating a vibrant and diverse food economy and revitalisation of supply chains.
‘Reflect the area’
The Sustainable Food Partnership’s name should reflect the area and the essence of the Partnership, which is to work collaboratively to promote sustainable practices and enhance the local food landscape for the benefit of people and the planet.
Speaking about the Sustainable Food Partnership, chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly has encouraged as many people as possible to submit a name.
“I was delighted to attend the inaugural meeting of the Sustainable Food Partnership on February 28,” he said. “It was great to see an excellent attendance at the meeting and such enthusiasm to work together to deliver on the Action Plan for the Partnership.
“Through the Sustainable Food Partnership we are bringing together a wide variety of expertise to make tangible differences across the local food system to ensure that our residents have access to healthy, tasty and affordable food whilst also supporting our local food and hospitality businesses.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to submit a suggested name for the Partnership,” he continued. “It should be memorable to ensure that Fermanagh and Omagh can strengthen its place as a foodie destination, which is proud of its local produce and an area that supports sustainability food practices.”
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to ensuring that our people are healthy and well and to achieving a Net Zero District by 2042.
The work of the Sustainable Food Partnership will help to achieve this.
