LOCAL Reds were in high spirits and songful tune last weekend when a Liverpool legend came to town.
Surrounded by a sea of supporters, Phil Thompson, a hero among those who follow the Merseyside club, sat in Omagh’s Cat and Fiddle and watched gleefully as Liverpool defeated Fulham in a 3-1 victory.
Speaking with the UlsterHerald, The Inn Bar Group general manager, Michael McIvor, described the atmosphere of Sunday afternoon.
“The day really couldn’t have went better for us, even the sunshine made an appearance,” started Michael.
“The place was bouncing the whole day.
“We asked the Omagh Liverpool fans to bring the noise, and they didn’t disappoint.”
Reflecting on the main character of the day, Michael lauded the former Sky Sports pundit for his geniality and genuineness.
“As for Phil himself, you could have listened to him for the whole evening as he told tales from the old Liverpool bootroom when he played, and when he was assistant manager in the late ‘90s early ‘00s.
“And he was an absolute gentleman, I don’t think any fan’s request was too much.
“It was a real pleasure to have him, and I think I can safely say every fan there had a day they won’t forget.”
This was the first event of this type that The Inn Bar Group have run. Along with their partners at Peak Top Agency, they say that they are already planning the next.
Michael concluded, “It was a great day’s craic, and Liverpool winning three points against Fulham made sure the party spirit didn’t dampen.”
