AN Omagh man has run through snow, frost and storms to raise £15,000 for those suffering from dementia.
Completing a remarkable distance of 186km over 31 days in January, working out at 6km per day, Alan Mitchell diligently pushed his body to the limits in aid of Dementia NI.
The ambitious feat, equivalent to just over four marathon distances, brought its own challenges but Alan said he was ‘determined’ to stay the course.
“It was tough at times, but a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Dementia NI – a local charity where all funds are retained within Northern Ireland for people of Northern Ireland,” Alan said.
“I would like to thank my family, friends and work colleagues who have provided unwavering daily support, encouragement and praise which provided me with a lift and boost to keep going.
“The sense of accomplishment I felt made the obstacles along the way feel worthwhile.
“I hope the funds raised will help Dementia NI continue its important work in supporting individuals and families affected by dementia.”
Dementia NI is a local member-led charity driving positive change for people living with dementia and their families. The charity promote the right for people living with dementia to be involved in decisions that affect their everyday lives.
By diligently raising awareness, Dementia NI challenges the stigma of having a diagnosis and offer support to others who are in the same boat and living with the symptoms.
