Celebrate Raymond Browne Lecky’s legacy at Fintona Golf Club

ON Friday, May 17, Fintona Golf Club will be abuzz with excitement as the community gathers to celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Raymond Browne Lecky – a female impersonator born in 1881, who left an indelible mark on the village.

Hosted on Lecky’s birthday and International Day Against Transphobia, Biphobia, and Homophobia (IDAHOBIT), this special event, ‘Lecky’s Legacy’, has been organised by Omagh Pride, and it promises to be a celebration of rural LQBTQ+ heritage as well as an evening of creativity, art, and community spirit.

Buried beside his partner Joel, Lecky dedicated his life to supporting musicians, actors, and his community, ultimately leaving the estate to the people of Fintona.

The event, curated by Omagh Pride co-founders, Cat Brogan and Loraine Montague, in collaboration with Arts Council Northern Ireland and The National Lottery Community Fund, features a diverse line-up of performances and exhibitions.

Attendees can look forward to performances inspired by Lecky’s life by Cat Brogan, and an art exhibition compiled by Loraine Montague, showcasing works inspired by community creative workshops.

In addition to the art exhibition, guests will have the opportunity to view paintings of Lecky himself, and historic landmarks of Fintona by renowned local artist, Niall Taggart.

James McAnespy from New Ireland TV has produced a thought-provoking short film and the evening will culminate in a drag performance by Drumquin native, Shania Laa Rue, adding a touch of glamour to the festivities.

Alongside a pop-up exhibition explaining more about Lecky, attendees are invited to bring along objects connected to Ecclesville House.

This interactive experience promises to be both informative and nostalgic, offering a glimpse into Fintona’s rich history.

“We are thrilled to invite the community to join us in celebrating the legacy of Raymond Browne Lecky,” said Cat Brogan, co-founder of Omagh Pride. “This event is a testament to his enduring impact and a celebration of diversity, creativity, and inclusion.”
