The cultural diversity that exists across Omagh and the wider area was illuminated in full colour with a range of great events on Friday.
As part of Culture Night 2021, the Omagh area played host to a number of community events showcasing the wonderful foods, music and poetry which are symbolic of the many cultures and nationalities which call this place home.
The exhibition – ‘From Around The World: Celebrating Our Cultures’ – presented by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council at Strule Arts Centre focused on the different cultures and traditions through photographs, personal stories, artefacts and the participant’s voices.
‘A Taste of Culture’ presented by Mountfield Community Association provided an insight into the traditions and practices of a range of different cultures that add to the diversity that exists within our local area with free arts and crafts, for all ages, and taste samples of Thai food.
There was also a Live Trad Session, presented by Dún Uladh Cultural Heritage Centre which was streamed online.
‘History and Origin of Local Surnames’, presented by Dromore GFC gave people an insight into where their surnames originated from, and what their surname means.
‘Selected Readings’ presented by Omagh Literary Festival at the Strule Arts Centre featured local writers, speakers, artists and musicians who read and performed classic and contemporary Irish arts and literature.
