A NEW running programme is being launched in conjunction with a charity set up in memory of a young Omagh man.
Enda Dolan was in his first term at Queen’s University when he was struck and killed by a van in Belfast in October 2014.
Since Enda’s death, his family have campaigned to increase the maximum sentence for causing death or serious injury by dangerous driving.
The Enda Dolan Foundation was also set up in his honour.
The foundation have joined forces with Killyclogher/Cappagh GAC to launch the new running programme ahead of the annual Killyclogher 10K and 5K Fun Run, which will take place on Saturday, June 7.
The initiative builds on the success of recent Enda Dolan Foundation training programmes, including the Couch to 5K and 5K to Half Marathon schemes, which saw over 400 participants take part in the recent Omagh Half Marathon and Fun Run.
This latest six-week training programme is open to beginners and improvers – whether you’re aiming to complete your first 5K, improve your 5K time, or take on your first 10K.
Training will take place every Tuesday evening at Youth Sport Omagh, beginning next Tuesday, April 29 at 6.30pm. Registration opens at 6pm.
The cost is £30 for adults training for the 5K, which includes race entry, chip timing and a medal. For adults training for the 10K, the cost is £40, which includes race entry, chip timing and a t-shirt. The cost for children is £10, which includes coaching, race entry and a medal.
Further details are available on the Run for Enda and Killyclogher 10K Facebook pages.
Peter Dolan from the Enda Dolan Foundation said: “We are really looking forward to this new running programme. It has become a great social occasion as well as introducing health and fitness awareness to many young and young-at-heart people.”
