Fundraising events held in memory of Aghyaran woman

HUNDREDS of walkers and runners have taken part in an annual charity event in memory of an Aghyaran woman.

Popping on their favourite running shoes with their friends by their sides, the event welcomed crowds from across Tyrone and beyond, all taking part in the special ‘Memorial 5k Walk/Run’ for Gemma McHale.

Commencing at the Aghyaran Centre, the evening race meandered through some of the county’s most scenic parts with delicious refreshments served afterwards.

A cycle event was also held last weekend.

All proceeds raised during Gemma’s memorial run and cycle will be split between a number of worthy charities and causes, including helping to fund counselling in local primary schools, charities that provide support to those affected by multiple sclerosis and cancer, and used to aid charity events locally.

Forever remembered by those who knew her, Gemma was tragically killed in a car accident in May 2012.In her memory, the McHale family host events such as these annually as a way to bring the community together in friendship and exercise, to help raise funds for important local causes, and to keep Gemma at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

To date, the family have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and counting – proof that Gemma is not, and never will be, forgotten.
