Appeal as girl asked to get into car in Loughmacrory

Police are appealing for information after a young girl was asked to get into a vehicle by two men acting suspiciously in Loughmacrory last weekend.

The incident took place on Saturday evening, when a black Vauxhall Astra was being ‘driven in a suspicious manner’, according to police.

The young girl was then reportedly stopped and asked to get into the vehicle by the driver or the other man in the car. A female teenager intervened during the incident and the vehicle left the area soon after.

“We are appealing for your help in relation to an incident in Omagh over the weekend,” police said in a statement.

“We received a report on Saturday 12th June about a car, described as a black Vauxhall Astra, being driven by a male and who had a male passenger with him.”

“It was reported the car was being driven in a suspicious manner in the Loughmacrory area of Omagh, between 6pm and 7pm and at one point the vehicle stopped and a young girl was asked to get into the vehicle.”

“Thankfully, a female teen intervened and the vehicle left the area.”

“We are working to establish exactly what happened and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at this time and has information that could help us.”

“We would also ask anyone in the area at this time who may have dash cam to check their footage.”

“If you feel you can assist, please make contact via 101 and quote reference 1812 of 12/06/21.”
