Appeal for dashcam after dog killed in ‘hit and run’

A “DEVASTATED” Omagh family is appealing for information after their much-loved dog was killed in a ‘hit-and-run’ collision on the Great Northern Road last week.

According to the police, the little Yorkshire terrier, known as Hugo, was struck by two vehicles in the early hours of Tuesday, March 30.

Neither vehicle stopped.

A PSNI spokesperson said, “The dog was fatally injured as a result.”

Owner, Jacqui Breslin, said all of her family had been left “devastated” by the loss of their four-year-old pet, whom she said was well-known around the Gallows Hill area.

A memorial to the family dog has now been erected in the garden outside their O’Connor Terrace home.

Jacqui is now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

The police are also urging anyone who was in the area at around the time of the incident and saw anything they feel could help with the investigation to contact 101, quoting reference number 497 of 30/03/21.

A PSNI spokesperson added, “Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100 per-cent anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
