Bomb survivor to speak on International Woman’s Day

A SURVIVOR of the Omagh bomb will be among the inspiring ladies who will come together virtually to help celebrate International Women’s Day on Monday (March 8).

The day is dedicated to honouring the achievements of women throughout history and all across the globe in social, economic, cultural and political spheres.

Events have moved online due to current restrictions, so, tand the event normally held at Dungannon’s Hill of The O’Neill & Ranfurly House will be held on Facebook with a panel of inspirational speakers from 7pm on International Women’s Day.

Donaghmore native, Karen Kirby will host the event this year, familiar to Tyrone audiences as a performer with Bardic Theatre and for her involvement in stage productions with the Castle Hill Players.

Karen also led the inaugural Cór Lár Uladh, an Irish language youth choir with its base at Hill of The O’Neill & Ranfurly House.

Having worked as a Radio and TV producer and presenter for many years in BBC Northern Ireland, her current role is that of Commissioning Executive of television, radio and digital content for BBC Gaeilge.

The theme for 2021 is ‘Choose To Challenge’ and the first speaker of the evening is the truly inspirational, Claire Bowes.

Having been blinded in the Omagh bomb at aged 15, brave Claire is a busy mum of three children who has overcome personal challenges, continuing with her education to obtain a Degree in Music and now runs her own music school.
