CARE facilities across Omagh district will be welcoming family members into see residents by appointment over the Christmas period.
Families and residents are looking forward to spending some quality time together this Christmas after a year of turmoil as visiting had been severely restricted in homes.
Meadowbank Care Home in Omagh has been welcoming families into the home to see the residents for some time, but manager, Tina Rodgers, said Christmas is an “extra special” time.
Tina said, “We are trying to accommodate families as best as we can for Christmas Day so we have hourly slots in place for visitors.
“It is important to get everyone in to see their family, especially at this time of the year. But the visits are by appointment and only for one family member to come along.
“All of the safety measures have been put in place and families can come and see their loved ones in a safe and secure environment.
“It has been working very well for us and the residents and families are delighted to able to see each other.”
Granard Residential home in Omagh is also looking forward to a busy week and visiting slots have filled up quickly.
Home manager, Carmel Rodgers, said, “We are going to do some Zoom and Whatsapp calls for families on Christmas morning.
Some families are coming to visit but are staying outside, while others have booked an appointment.
“We will accommodate residents and families whatever way we can on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
“We have all of the procedures in place – masks, social distancing and sanitising.”
“We are offering the residents a cup of tea and a mince pie – something a wee bit different just to mark Christmas,” concluded Carmel.
