Celebrities line-up for Harte tribute

FORMER captain of Ireland’s rugby team – Rory Best and record breaking jockey AP McCoy will be among the celebrities paying tribute to Mickey Harte in an online event this Thursday.

In November last year, Mickey Harte stepped down as Tyrone’s senior football manager after 18 years, during which he helped the Red Hands win three All -Ireland titles and six Ulster crowns.

Just weeks later, Mr Harte took up the position of manager of Louth.

On Thursday night, starting at 7pm, Mid Ulster District Council will use their YouTube channel to broadcast a celebratory tribute.

“Tune in to our YouTube Channel next Thursday (June 3) at 7pm for Mickey Harte Player and Bainisteoir: A Tribute, as we recognise his achievements with club and county over almost two decades as player and manager,” a social media post from the council reads.

“Hosted by Council Chair, Cathal Mallaghan, the programme features, Adrian Logan in conversation with Mickey Harte, his family, friends, players and peers from across the island of Ireland and over the water in America.

“Personal tributes from across the sporting world from the likes of Rory Best, Shane Lowry and AP McCoy.”

They added, “Musical contributions from Malachi Cush and Plunkett McGartland as well as Mickey Coleman Singer/Songwriter.

“Make sure to join us for a compelling evening’s viewing that gives an insight into the man, his football, family and faith.”
