Drink-driver crashed into fence

POLICE identified the driver of a car that crashed in Omagh by the number of the registration plate.

When PSNI officers went to the home of Jai Fu Shi (50) of Coolnagard Grove, they discovered he was over the alcohol limit.

At Omagh Magistrates Court he admitted the drink-driving offence and careless driving. He was disqualified for 16 months and fined £300.

Shi collided with a wooden fence at Kevlin Gardens on June 22. He told police he drank three tins of beer. He provided an evidential breath sample that recorded a reading of 68 micrograms, 35mgs in excess of the legal limit.

Defence barrister, Brian O’Sullivan said his client has been in this jurisdiction since 2002 and has “no record whatsoever.”

He acknowledged there was an inevitable disqualification
adding that the collision
happened “two minutes” from his home.

District Judge, Peter Prenter said he could not give the minimum 12 months disqualification because there was an accident involved.

He certified the defendant for the drink-driver course which on completion will reduce the driving ban by a third
