A 50-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a Lifford woman.
Bride-to-be Laura Connolly was killed in a hit and run on July 11 this year. The 34-year-old mother-of-one was returning from a night out with friends when she was struck in the early hours of the morning.
Sean Connaughton, with addresses in Killygordon and Dundalk, had previously been charged with minor road traffic offences relating to the fatal incident.
But at Letterkenny District Court on Monday charges of dangerous driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident were added to the list of allegations he faces.
Garda Derek Connaughton told the court how he had charged the defendant at 10.40am and that the accused had made no reply.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian said the case was inevitably headed for the circuit court. He asked for a book of evidence and that Connaughton’s bail be extended.
“Realistically it’s not going to be ready for Christmas,” Mr Dorrian said.
The case was adjourned until January 24.
