James and Fiadh were the most popular baby names in the Western Health and Social Care Trust area in 2020, new figures from NISRA have shown.
According to the figures, of all the births registered in the council area last year, 38 baby boys were named James and 38 girls were named Fiadh across the Trust area.
The next most popular boys’ names across the Trust area were Charlie (34), Finn (33), Noah (32) and Cillian (29).
While for baby girls born across the Trust, the most popular names after Fiadh were Grace (33), Isla (30), Sophie (26) and Sophia (24).
There was a split across the three Tyrone districts in the updated baby names data for 2020, with the Fermanagh & Omagh area seeing James and Grace top the pile, in line with the overall data for the North.
In Derry & Strabane however, Cillian was the most popular name with 18 boys named that last year, while there 17 each for Fiadh and Isla across the district.
In Mid Ulster, Charlie proved to be the most used name alongside Grace for girls.
James and Grace once again held the top spot for the region as a whole. The statistics show Grace has been the most popular girls’ name since 2018, and has appeared in the top three most popular names for 15 consecutive years. James has been the most popular boys’ name for the past six years, and has ranked in the top five each year since reporting of baby names began in 1997.
