‘Last wish’ granted for terminally-ill Jemma

A TERMINALLY-ill Tyrone woman has had one of her last wishes granted by an Irish charity, which has provided her with a log cabin where she can relax and receive her treatment for cancer.

Mother-of-three Jemma McGowan, from Omagh, was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer earlier this year, and raised more than £150,000 to fund her treatment at the Hope4Cancer centre in Cancun, Mexico.

Now, having returned from her first trip to the treatment centre with husband Clive and three children, Jemma must continue with a gruelling treatment programme in order to attempt to prolong her life, having been told previously she may only have a year to live.

Irish charity, Clare’s Wish has facilitated the use of a log cabin for Jemma’s remaining treatment at home, via Loghouse, a company based in Dublin.

“Clare’s Wish is a charity based in the South that grant terminally-ill adults with a wish and I was so lucky to have my wish granted and it has surpassed my expectations of what I ever imagined I would get.

“A very kind company in Dublin, Loghouse.ie, have offered to provide me with an eco-garden room to house
all my treatment equipment, so I have privacy and space to relax for a few hours each day.

“They have set up a GoFundMe to help kit out the inside of the cabin to make it more useable for me as well.

“Everyone involved has been so so kind.”

Jemma, who is originally from Stewartstown, said the results of her first trip to Mexico are still not clear yet, but she is keen to stick to the strict home regime she has been given by her doctors.

She said, “I got on well in Mexico; a lot to learn and it has been a lot tougher than I imagined it was going to be.

“I have busy days doing my treatments at home and a strict protocol to follow.”

Clare’s Wish founder, Kevin Clancy, said the foundation was delighted to help Jemma and her family with facilitating the delivery of her log cabin.

“I am delighted to bring a wish to life for Jemma and family who are going through very tough times, joining with Loghouse Cabin Company,” Mr Clancy said.

“Jemma has a wish for a garden cabin so she can have a quiet place to have her ongoing treatments.”
