A MAN has been arrested in Mauritius in connection with the murder of Michaela McAreavey.
Dassen Narayen, a former security guard at the hotel where Mrs McAreavey was killed, was arrested on Tuesday, the BBC reports.
He has previously been charged with conspiracy to murder but the charges were subsequently reduced and then thrown out altogether in 2013.
Mr Narayen’s lawyer said his client had to be taken to hospital during his time in police custody where he was treated for longstanding health issues on Tuesday night.
Mrs McAreavey, the daughter of Tyrone GAA legend Mickey Harte, was killed in her hotel room in January 2010 while on her honeymoon.
It is understood she returned to her hotel room alone and disturbed a burglary in progress.
Mr Narayen’s lawyer maintains his client’s innocence.
