Moves to tackle fly-tipping behind Townsend Street

STRABANE Sinn Féin councillor Michaela Boyle says that NIE has committed to consider securing land under its ownership at the back row behind homes in Townsend Street which is a perennial hot spot for fly-tipping.

She said, “Those responsible for fly-tipping at the back row showing wanton disregard for the local community and the local environment. 

Fly-tipping at the back row has unfortunately been a perennial problem. Given that items being illegally dumped here can all be safely disposed of at Council’s Strahan’s Road Recycling Centre there is absolutely no excuse for it.

“Thanks to Fountain Street for their efforts in clearing away a large part of the rubbish left there.

“I have subsequently been in contact with NIE on behalf of local residents. In response, NIE is to clear up the remainder of the fly-tipped waste on the land for which it is responsible and has committed to consider securing its site to reduce the potential for fly-tipping.”
