Health minister Robin Swann praised the “huge achievement” of the Fermanagh Omagh area after the district was the first in months to report no new Covid 19 cases in Northern Ireland.
The last 24-hour period where no new positive cases were recorded was in September 2020.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Swann praised the efforts of those in the district.
“Today for the first time in many months, one of our local government areas has confirmed no new Covid cases in the past 24 hours. This is a huge achievement and I want to applaud and thank all the people of Fermanagh & Omagh council area,” Mr Swann said.
In Northern Ireland as a whole, there were no deaths recorded in the previous 24 hours on Wednesday by the Department of Health. 139 new cases of Covid 19 were detected in the region.
The Health minister continued to urge caution and reminded citizens to stay at home and observe public health guidance.
“The same spirit is still required. We must remain cautious and we must remain vigilant. The stay at home restrictions remain in place for now and will be in place over the Easter holiday weekend.”
