Omagh Samaritans are ‘still here to listen’

THE Omagh Samaritans have set-up a new Facebook page to remind the people of Omagh, and indeed Tyrone, that they are still there to help, despite being unable to meet people face-to-face due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Not only does the page, ‘Samaritans Omagh’ feature positive quotes and inspirational words of affirmation, but it also features important contact details – including the telephone number for the Samaritans – should anyone find themselves in emotional distress.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, Omagh Samaritan, Fiona, has encouraged all local people to like and share the page to benefit from its uplifting content and to encourage the conversation of mental health.

“We just want to let people know that we’re still here to listen,” Fiona, who runs the page with fellow volunteers, explained. “We can’t meet people at our office face-to-face anymore, but if anyone wants to contact us via our telephone number or our email address, then they are most welcome.

“We also hope that the positive content on our page can help brighten up someone’s day, and helps keep them up-to-date with what we are doing.

“And if you see someone who you feel is struggling, reach out to them, or share our page with them. You never know how much a little gesture can go a long way.”
