A PROUD Omagh woman will be showcasing the best of the town’s musical talent as part of an Irish Radio Show on International Women’s Day.
Aoife Nicholls is an Irish teacher from Omagh who has turned her hand to radio producing, and she will be hosting ‘Tamall le hAoife’ on Raidió Fáilte this Monday at 6pm.
A former pupil of Loreto Grammar School, Aoife’s show aims to highlight the vast array of musical talent in Omagh and the surrounding areas.
It will be broadcast on Irish Language station Raidió Fáilte, as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day where the station will be broadcasting a variety of programmes by female presenters.
Throughout the show, Aoife will play music of all genres as she believes the talented musicians of Omagh deserve to be ‘applauded and celebrated.’
Speaking to the UH, Aoife said, “Along with several other women, I have undertaken radio production training with Raidió Fáilte, led by BBC Gaeilge presenter Caoimhe Ní Chathail and including mentoring also by Áine Ní Bhreisleáin from RnaG.
“My show will be a celebration of the musical talent that has emanated from Omagh.
“I have always recognised the wealth of music in my home town and I am extremely proud of it.
“The talent and zest for music in Omagh deserves to be applauded and celebrated.
“There will be plenty of women played on the show including Donna Taggart, Maeve Dunphy and Michelle Owens to mention a few.
“There will also be music from the late, great Arty McGlynn and a host of others,” added Aoife.
