School heralds £500,000 refurb of sports facilities

A CARRICKMORE school has undergone a £500,000 refurbishment to enhance their PE department and sporting facilities.

Dean Maguirc College in Carrickmore has received a major upgrade to their changing rooms and toilets, while the cloakroom area of the school was also refurbished and improved.

The improvement scheme was supported by the Education Authority (EA), and was opened last week.

Commenting on this latest project for the school, the principal, James Warnock, said he is “delighted” to have the work completed to a high standard, and added it is another positive development for the college which continues to be oversubscribed annually.

“I am delighted to see the completion of the scheme which has given way to such enhanced facilities for the school, especially the PE department.

“The refurbished cloakroom area has added a new dimension to the school environment and I applaud the professional manner in which the work was carried out by the entire project team,” said Mr Warnock.

Unfortunately, the new changing rooms cannot be used by students at the moment due to strict Covid-19 regulations at the school, but will be used widely by PE and sporting teams in the future.

The principal explained, “Dean Maguirc College has won various sporting titles over the years and we are extremely proud of our accomplishments.

“One of my goals was that one day we would have modern changing facilities for our pupils who have played with such passion on the pitch.

“Of course, these improvements will also enhance the daily delivery of our physical education programme.

“While part of the refurbished area will be out of use due to Covid-19 restrictions, we look forward to a time that we can utilise such welcomed amenities,” he added.
