ST COLUMBA’s PS has had a very busy first term with emphasis on more than just the academic. We appreciate that it was difficult returning to school after such a long period at home.
Positive mental health is an area that we place great importance on especially given the new norm facing all school children. All staff here in St Columba’s have been thinking outside the box to provide a safe and supportive environment conducive to learning.
We are very grateful to the Gemma McHale Charity for funding the ‘Relax Kids’ programme this year for all of our pupils and Counselling services for those who needed more one to one support. In addition, we have the expertise and experience of trained sports coaches; musical pathways in the early year classes; Music tutors; online safety awareness programme; Anti Bullying Programme for KS2; the PATHS program runs throughout the school, all of which promote positive mental health.
At St Columba’s we strive to develop our children to be spiritual, creative, resilient, curious and empathetic, to have strong relationships and positive attitudes to all aspects of their learning.
As a dyslexia friendly school we aim to provide well supported education where all children can thrive. We work closely with outside agencies to ensure up to date training for staff and to seek advice to assist and meet the needs of our children.
As a ‘Rights Respecting School’ we support and encourage the children to have their say, especially in regards to their well-being. The Student Council have established an anti-bullying ambassador group who take their role very seriously and an Eco committee who have already achieved six green flags and led the school to become an ‘Eco Ambassador School’.
