A STRABANE man who attacked police officers on two different occasions, has received a suspended jail sentence.
Connor McGeehan (30) who resides on Main Street in the town, carried out the assaults on August 9 this year and March 22 last year. At the Magistrates Court he was sentenced to consecutive terms of four and two months, suspended for two years.
In the first incident last year, police went to a report of a disturbance in the early hours of the morning.
As McGeehan and three other males were being escorted from a house, he lunged at and punched a police officer.
On the other occasion police went to his flat after receiving a report that he was self-harming. He kicked an officer on the shins and kicked out and spat at other police officers. He was restrained and taken to hospital.
After considering a pre-sentence report, District Judge John Connolly said, “He must have had some sort of a mental breakdown. I won’t impose immediate custody. Any repeat and he will be in prison immediately. He has stayed out of trouble since the later incident”.
