AN American man who lives in Strabane believes his home-country is in urgent need of change.
Jon Campbell, who was brought up in Long Island, New York, moved to Strabane 17 years ago and has made the town his home.
Looking across the Pond at his native country, Mr Campbell believes that a change is required and is hoping that Joe Biden will win the presidential race on November 3.
Mr Campbell said, “We have had four years of a dictator, a racist and a bigot so we need change now.
“America is just ridiculous right now and I feel very lucky to be here.
“Trump is out for himself and nobody else. He has allowed racial violence to become a thing that people are just supposed to get used to and that is disgusting.
“The fact that he can send the army out and gas protesters who are peacefully protesting, that pretty much proves my point.
“We need a change now and Biden would be a good change for us, and he would put America back on a stable footing again,” said Mr Campbell.
Mr Campbell still has family who live America, and they are also in the middle of dealing with the Covid outbreak.
He continued, “One of my family members is a nurse and she is dealing with Covid-19 in New York on a daily basis.
“Trump is coming out with statements about bleach and disinfectant and it is just unbelievable that he has so much power.
“Over 200,000 people dead in America is no joke and I know that there is no way that we can escape this virus but
Trump has been telling people not to wear masks and has not taken it seriously.
“We need someone who is confident in the White House to help America recover from Covid.”
Mr Campbell said he is glad to have made Strabane his home, even if it is a lot quieter than New York City.
He continued, “Long Island is not 24/7 all the time.
“It is not as slow paced as Strabane but it is quieter than Manhattan. One of the biggest differences is that there isn’t a lot to do here because I do not drink. Strabane is a nice place to live, the people are friendly and the atmosphere is always nice,” added Mr Campbell.
