Tributes paid to ‘warm, kind and positive’ teacher

THE principal of a Tyrone school has paid tribute to a popular former teacher who died suddenly last week.

Geraldine Cameron (nee McLoughlin), passed away suddenly at her home in Boho, Co Fermanagh, last Wednesday. Requiem Mass for the mother-of-six was held in Sacred Heart Church, Boho on Saturday afternoon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

On Friday morning, a post on Loreto Grammar School’s Facebook page stated that the Omagh school’s community were saddened by the news of their former teacher’s sudden death. Mrs Cameron had worked in the school’s English and Drama departments.

Principal, Susan Cullinan, said, “We have very fond memories of Mrs Cameron as a warm, kind, positive person who contributed generously to our pupils, colleagues on the staff and school community. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends at this very sad time.”

Dozens of tributes from former colleagues, pupils and parents at the school have been posted on social media. Siobhan Gormley said, “RIP Geraldine – a hard working, dedicated teacher who enjoyed this profession with enthusiasm and energy.

“And always spoke so highly of her six beautiful children and all of their endeavours and many talents.”

Claire McCormick said, “As a parent of a past pupil I know she worked very hard for all of her pupils so they could achieve their very best. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, Maria Thomasson said, “So desperately sad. A tragic loss for her family and friends. A beautiful lady with such a passion for teaching.

“It was a joy to know Geraldine and to work with her.” Mrs Cameron is survived by her mother, May, sisters Maureen and Eileen, brother Sean, husband Anthony and children, Maria, Conor, Antonia, Helena, Ryan and Jamay. She was predeceased by her father John.
