Vigils to be held across Tyrone to remember murdered teacher Ashling Murphy

A NUMBER of vigils are to take place across the county in remembrance of murdered teacher Ashling Murphy.

A vigil will take place at 4pm today in Strabane in the Square. It has been co-organised by Strabane Sigersons GAA Ladies, Sion Swifts Ladies And Girls FC and Strabane Athletic Ladies F.C.

The Omagh vigil will take place tonight at 6pm at the Dún Uladh Cultural Heritage Centre.

Dungannon will have two vigils, a candle lit vigil held in Anne Street car-park tonight at 7pm and one tomorrow evening at 5pm on the steps of the Ranfurly Arts Centre.

Ashling Murphy was a primary school teacher from Tullamore, County Offaly. She died after being attacked while jogging along the canal bank at Cappincur at around 4pm on Wednesday.

A number of senior politicians have promised that justice would be delivered for Ms Murphy’s family and condemned violence against women.

Members of the local community are encouraged to attend vigils to remember Ashling’s life and stand together against violence towards women.

Organisers of the vigils have said they will be socially distanced and have asked attendees to wear face masks if possible.
