Young people urged to take up vaccine

Health Minister Robin Swann has urged people in the North to encourage vaccine uptake among young people, as walk-in Covid 19 vaccine clinics open up across the region.

More than two million vaccine doses have now been given out across the North, with almost one million having been fully vaccinated. More than 200,000 jabs have been given out by the Western Trust to date.

All regional vaccination centres have now been made available for walk-ins without appointment for both first and second dose appointments (minimum six weeks since first dose), including at Omagh Leisure Centre.

Swann said it was important that parents and friends of young people encouraged those around them to take the vaccine.

“I am not asking for pester power or nagging. Just please make sure your friends and children in the 18 plus age group make an informed decision on vaccination and are fully aware of everything that’s at stake. Sit down with them and have the conversation,” the Health Minister said.

“When young people get the jab, they protect themselves, their parents, their grandparents and all those who are close to them.

“Each vaccination takes us a step closer to normality. Being double jabbed will open doors for people. We see that with travel and the vaccine certification requirements for holidays abroad.

“My message to young people is: don’t be left behind – don’t be left without the protection and opportunities that getting double jabbed brings.”
