Door is open for new players in Tyrone squad

NEW joint managers of the Tyrone senior footballers, Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher, have tonight outlined their ambitions as they prepare to guide the county’s fortunes for the next three years.

The duo, who were appointed to the post just 24 hours ago, spoke of how the door was opened to new players capable of making the grade at the top level of inter-county football.

They praised the quality of this year’s Tyrone championship at club level which attracted attention country-wide.

Feargal Logan said he was looking forward to taking on the challenge, adding that both him and Brian Dooher were honoured and privileged to be taking on the job in succession to Mickey Harte.

“”We are hoping to get going and that things go forward swimmingly in the time ahead,” said the Stewartstown clubman.

Brian Dooher said becoming joint managers wasn’t something that they had planned, but said they were fortunate that so many members of the 2015 All-Ireland winning U-21 team, of which they were managers, now represented the core of the senior squad.

“It’s the way things worked out. We were lucky to have good times with that U-21 team and that group now forms the core of the senior team,” he said.

“We are looking forward to working with them and see where that takes us. Our main aim here is to try and create an environment here that ensures players can give of their best for Tyrone football and see where that takes us.”

Both men, who were part of the Tyrone team which won the Ulster title in 1996, paid tribute to the efforts of Mickey Harte over the past 18 years. They also expressed the hope for a quick return to action when the restrictions resulting from the current coronavirus pandemic are finally eased.

“Hopefully, there will be a vaccine goes and we obviously don’t know how the GAA season will look in 2021,” added Feargal Logan.

“But we are relishing the opportunity to get out onto the pitch to begin preparations.”
