RYAN Daly accepts that Carrickmore supporters will be expecting nothing less than a performance worthy of their proud championship tradition in tonight’s first-round clash against Killyclogher.
This is a youthful Carrickmore side with a few notable exceptions, but that didn’t hold them back last year as they made it all the way to the semi-finals.
Their league form over the last month has been mixed, but a convincing victory over the Moy at the weekend came just at the right time ahead of their championship opener against an in-form Killyclogher side.
Ryan Daly, who manages the team alongside Noel Hurson, doesn’t need told about the lofty expectations of the supporters, but he knows that another championship run would be great for the younger players on the team.
“Carrickmore people always want success, and that’s not a bad thing either. They want another run in the championship, we’ve a proud championship tradition and our supporters will be expecting that we give Killyclogher their fill of it in Healy Park.”
He added: “We’ll be looking for a performance. Last year was the first time this particular team got a number of championship games on the trot and we’ll be looking to get that momentum going again.
“It would be an invaluable experience for the younger players so that’s our aim. No matter what anyone says, championship football is incomparable to the league.”
