LAST weekend saw the competition for the 2022 Captain’s Prize take place at Omagh Golf Club, hosted by Captain Phil Marshall MBE.
After a couple of low scores which came in on Friday, the eventual winner had a tough target to beat and holding his nerve on Saturday, Neil Gillender posted a superb 64 nett to take the top spot. Victory probably tasted all the sweeter knowing five players finished one shot back on 65.
After a few heavy showers late on Friday, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day making the occasion all the more enjoyable. Captain Phil had a fundraiser in aid of his chosen charity, Prostate Cancer UK. The ‘Rory Challenge’ was a fun task of trying to chip a golf ball into a washing machine which raised a sum of over £2000 for the charity.
During the prize giving a cheque was also presented to the local Representative of Marie Curie for £2550. This money was raised from an Open Competition held on 29th June and thanks to Bernie McKelvey for his endeavours.
