“On behalf of the County Board we would like to congratulate all the newly crowned Tyrone and Fermanagh champions and to all the boxers that took part,” said a spokesperson for the Tyrone and Fermanagh Boxing County Board.

“Thanks to Bishop Kelly for hosting the championships this year, to medical professional Grainne providing first aid and to our referees and judges who worked tirelessly all weekend. Without all the help and support these championships would not be possible.

“[It was a] great event to get the new year started for these young boxers of the future.”

Dukes Boxing Gym entered a total of fifteen boxers, and ended the Championship with an impressive haul of thirteen golds and two silvers.

A club coach stated: “There was a great atmosphere throughout these Championships. It’s great to enter a large team so everyone could enjoy each other’s company. As always I’m extremely proud of our (Dukes) boxers and the way they conducted themselves inside and outside the ring sets a standard for others to aspire to.

“The club has hailed a lot of champions since opening its doors in 2021 with a lot of success with kids coming through the young guns group to the youth stage. We look forward now to the Mid Ulster Novice Championships on the 25th January.

Ring action will continue locally on January 25th and 26th when the Mid Ulster Novice Championships will be held in St Eugene’s Hall in Newtownstewart. Pre draw entry will close on Monday January 20th at 12 noon. Weigh-in will take place on Saturday, January 25th from 9.30-10.30am at St Eugene’s Hall.
